Portugal: Europe's Leading Destination 2020

Portugal was elected Europe's Leading Destination in the Tourism “Oscars” for the fourth consecutive year! The prizes were awarded November 1st by the World Travel Awards, with Portugal collecting 26 awards, all over the country. Warmrental tells you everything!

For the fourth consecutive year, Portugal was considered by the European edition of the World Travel Awards as Europe's Leading Destination. In a year marked by the pandemic, in which tourism was strongly affected, this distinction tastes particularly better, reinforcing Portugal's qualities as a prominent tourist destination.

Precisely due to the pandemic, the ceremony took place this year in a virtual format on November 1st.

“It's with particular pride that we receive this award, in this atypical year”, said Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism. “It's yet another proof of international confidence in our destination and an acknowledgment that Portugal's attributes remain intact and ready to be discovered by all those who wish to visit us, always respecting the rules defined by the authorities”, she continues.

But the awards didn't stop there. Lisbon, Porto, Algarve, Madeira, and the Azores are among the winning destinations. We highlight below the main prizes won by Portugal, which, in total, collected 26 awards. Find out here:

The World Travel Awards were founded in 1993, aiming to reward the “best travel and tourism organizations in the world.” Given their importance to the travel and tourism industry, these are considered by many to be the Tourism “Oscars”. The selection of nominees for each category is carried out by thousands of professionals in the sector and subject to public voting.
