Ferries and boat taxis

Ferries depart from the Olhão waterfront (near the markets and marina) and connect the town to:

  • Ilha da Armona: the closest and most popular island.
  • Ilha da Culatra: a traditional fishing community.

Ferries run year-round, with more frequent departures in summer. The crossing usually takes 15–20 minutes, depending on the island and tide conditions. Tickets are affordable and can be purchased at the kiosk near the pier.

For more flexibility, especially outside peak ferry times, boat taxis are available at the marina. They’re faster, ideal for small groups or families, and convenient if you want to return later in the evening. They cost more than the public ferry but offer a more personalized and flexible option.
