How to get here
It is super easy to get to Cais do Sodré, or by Metro (€ 1.20) or by train. And it is precisely through the train that you will find the best way to quickly reach either Alcântara (1.30 €) or Belém (1.30 €). If you happen to be strolling around Baixa, Terreiro do Paço or Bairro Alto, you can also walk here as it is a simple and pleasant walk.
What to do
At Cais do Sodré you will find some of the best nightlife spots in the capital. And it is the zone sought by the "night owls" who seek to prolong the parties and meetings that normally begin a few hours earlier in Bairro Alto. Alcantâra is also one of the most dynamic poles in the Lisbon scene, with the LX Factory and it's cultural diversity. Already in the Belém zone, you'll find plenty to do. From the ultra modern MAAT, the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Centro Cultural de Belém. Come and immerse yourself in everything!
What to see
Well, the beans have already been spilled. If you are looking for bars and nightclubs, both Cais do Sodré and Alcântara will not disappoint you. If, by chance, you are looking to immerse yourself in culture, it is in Belém and in MAAT (5€) and CCB, where you will find the best exhibitions and challenging events. If you want to go back in time by going back some five centuries, the area of Belém - Torre de Belém (6€), Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Museu Nacional dos Coches (8€), etc - is itself a museum. And since you'll be on the Tejo's riverbank... dazzle yourself.
Where to eat
If you're at Cais do Sodré, then Time Out Market has to be on your agenda. Formerly an old market of fresh products, this huge pavilion is now home to some of the best Portuguese gastronomy dishes. You will find here the modern and the traditional. The fish, the meat, and the vegetables. The deserts and the main courses... This is must do. Of course, if you are going to visit Belém then it is mandatory to eat one (or two, or three...) pastel de Belém (1.10€). Do not be disheartened with the queue. First, it disappears quickly; and second, you will taste one of the best sweeties in the world.
Smart tips
Departing from Cais do Sodré to Belém, you will always have the Tejo River on your left. The views will be very pleasant and you will easily find scenarios for beautiful photographs. If you feel like walking, running or cycling, this area is also perfectly suitable for this. Finally, more in the area of Belém, take a time to relax in the gardens. Maybe putting a bottle of water in the backpack and a sunscreen are also very good tips...
