After having won 30 tourism Oscars in the European round of the World Travel Awards, Portugal won 12 more awards in the world edition, with some of its regions being considered the World's Leading City Destination, the World's Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination, and the World's Leading Island Destination. At the beginning of October, Portugal won 30 awards in the European edition of what is considered to be the Oscars of Tourism, including Europe's Leading Destination. A month later, the country brings home another 12 “Oscars” at the world edition of the World Travel Awards. The gala that elected the best in the world in the tourism sector was held in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
The host country of the event won the award for World's Leading Nature Destination and the award for World's Leading Destination was conquered by the Maldives.
But Portugal also won several important distinctions. Lisbon was considered the World's Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination, Porto won the award for World's Leading City Destination, Madeira was elected the World's Leading Insular Destination (for the eighth year), and Passadiços do Paiva, in Arouca, is the World's Leading Adventure Tourism Attraction.
